The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to conduct board examinations twice a year starting from the 2025-26 academic session. This initiative aims to reduce student stress by providing multiple opportunities to perform well.

The Ministry of Education has instructed CBSE to develop the logistics for implementing this biannual examination system. However, there are no current plans to introduce a semester system. The board is working on structuring the academic calendar to accommodate the additional set of exams without affecting undergraduate admission schedules. Consultations with school principals are scheduled to finalize the modalities.

It's important to note that students will not be required to appear for both examinations. The option to take the exams twice a year is intended to offer flexibility and reduce the high stakes associated with a single annual examination.

This change is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which recommends reforms in assessment patterns to enhance learning outcomes and reduce student stress. The exact schedule for the two examination periods is yet to be determined, with options under consideration including January-February, March-April, and June.

The CBSE is currently in the process of working out the modalities of how the academic calendar will be structured to accommodate another set of board exams without impacting the undergraduate admission schedule.

This development reflects a significant shift in India's educational assessment landscape, aiming to provide students with more opportunities and flexibility in demonstrating their academic abilities.
